New development of China National Heavy Duty Truck sprints 135,000 vehicles next year
In the wake of its HK$9 billion listing in Hong Kong on November 28, China National Heavy Duty Truck (CNHTC) unlocked new opportunities for growth and expansion. Just a few weeks later, on December 19, the group celebrated a major milestone: the 100,000th heavy-duty vehicle rolled off the assembly line at the Jinan Commercial Vehicle Company's new plant. This achievement made CNHTC the first Chinese heavy truck manufacturer to surpass 100,000 units in production and sales this year, placing it among the world’s top five heavy truck manufacturers.
This milestone reflects the company’s rapid development throughout the year. From January to November, CNHTC produced and sold 93,000 heavy-duty trucks, marking a year-on-year increase of 70.28%. Despite operating from multiple bases, the company managed to outpace industry growth. By the end of the year, total production and sales exceeded 100,000 units, with over 13,000 vehicles exported and revenue reaching $400 million. This placed CNHTC at the top of the export and foreign exchange rankings in the national heavy truck industry for the third consecutive year.
The company also achieved annual sales revenue of over $3.5 billion, with profits and taxes totaling more than 2.8 billion yuan—far exceeding its annual targets. These results solidified its position as the industry leader. At the 2008 Business Conference held on December 20, CNHTC’s leadership announced ambitious goals for the following year: producing and selling 125,000 units, achieving 135,000 vehicle outputs, and earning $600 million through exports. The company successfully met its "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" goals two years early, laying the groundwork for becoming an internationally advanced heavy truck manufacturer and aiming to enter the world’s top 500 companies.
Looking ahead, despite a 70% growth this year, CNHTC has set a more conservative target for next year, aiming for a growth rate of 25% to 35%. This strategic move ensures sustainable development while maintaining its competitive edge in the global market.
