China's current development trend of new packaging technology for paper products
Today, paper-based packaging remains the most widely used among the four major packaging materials and is considered one of the most promising sustainable options. However, its production process can be environmentally harmful, requiring significant investment to address pollution issues effectively.
To improve efficiency and reduce environmental impact, corrugated box manufacturers are focusing on lightweight, high-strength 3-, 5-, and 7-layer boxes suitable for heavy-duty applications in electronics and home appliances. Innovations include coated white kraft paper and low-cost flexible color printing with water-based inks, enhancing product quality. Advanced equipment for high-quality plastic boxes is being developed, replacing traditional staples to improve structural integrity. Additionally, new fruit and vegetable crates and corrugated trays are being designed with features like moisture resistance, antibacterial properties, and affordability. High-speed vacuum-adsorbing corrugated rolls are also being introduced to boost machine performance and operational efficiency. Integrated and modular technologies for electromechanical systems are being developed to promote standardization and reduce reliance on imported components.
In the field of fine corrugated cartons, production technologies are evolving to meet the needs of small-volume, multi-species manufacturing. Low-cost paper containers such as bags, boxes, cups, and tubes are being developed with eco-friendly materials. Vacuum-spray aluminum transfer cardboard is replacing traditional gold card paper, offering a more sustainable alternative. High-speed, high-precision die-cutting machines and circular die-cutting systems are also being improved to support efficient production.
Honeycomb paperboard is seeing advancements in production lines that are both efficient and adaptable to China's specific conditions. These systems aim to overcome current limitations that hinder large-scale adoption. Low-cost honeycomb products with moisture-proof, flame-retardant, anti-static, and anti-counterfeiting features are being developed alongside appropriate accessories. Special attention is given to the safety and hygiene of anti-counterfeiting packaging, particularly for food and pharmaceutical products. Materials in direct contact with goods must meet strict health standards to ensure consumer safety.
In pulp molding technology, efforts are focused on improving the pass rate and reliability of pulp paste production, aiming to bring costs closer to those of EPS foam. Customized production lines and molds for small-batch, multi-species manufacturing are being developed. Technologies for directly producing buffer packaging from natural plant fibers like orange stalks are under research, accelerating the development of biological bacteria, protein denaturation, and adhesive hot pressing techniques. A standardized and modular design system for pulp-molded products is also being created to lower costs, enhance product quality, and create new growth opportunities in paper packaging.
