1 Overview Compressed air for pneumatic systems requires high cleanliness to remove mechanical impurities and moisture as much as possible. Excessive water content will bring two major problems: First, the control valve, cylinder and other components are rusted, shortening its service life. Second, when the valve and cylinder are working in a low temperature environment, they will freeze and cause the malfunction. In 1995, the No. 2 blast furnace tank of Laigang No. 1 Iron Works was transformed into a pneumatic transmission by mechanical transmission. The cylinders of the pneumatic system all work in the open air environment. The ambient temperature in winter can be as low as 15 °C, and the anti-freezing problem is very prominent. Whether to design a simple and reliable gas source with good dehydration effect is one of the keys to the success of the design of the pneumatic system. The cooling dehydration device designed by the author in this retrofit design is simple and reliable, and the use effect is good.

2 Cooling device design The power source of the pneumatic system - the air containing the moisture and dust sucked from the atmosphere by the air compressor, through the imported pre-filter, the dust is initially filtered, but the water vapor cannot be filtered out. The compressed air temperature is increased to 140 ° C ~ 170 ° C, the total amount of water content is unchanged, but the relative humidity is greatly reduced. Obviously, it is difficult to filter out water at this temperature, and the compressed air is sent to a cooler for cooling, so that the water can be analyzed before it can be filtered out. And the cooling effect directly affects the water removal effect.

There are two common types of cooling media: water and air. The air cooler with water as the cooling medium has the advantages of large cooling capacity and small volume, but it requires water consumption, is difficult to maintain, and cannot cool the air to below 0 °C. Therefore, the author designed a naturally ventilated compressed air cooler with air as the cooling medium, as shown in Figure 1.

The cooler has the following characteristics: 14 back-stage segmented countercurrent heat transfer, and the cooling effect is good.

2 Air is used as the cooling medium and does not consume water. The cooling air is naturally convective and does not consume electricity.

3 has the advantage of adaptive enhanced cooling, that is, when the temperature in winter is low, since the inlet temperature of the cooling medium of the cooler is equal to the ambient temperature, the cooling capacity is automatically increased. The advantage of adaptive enhanced cooling ensures that moisture is precipitated before the dehydrator.

3 Dehydration design The system does not use a refrigerating dry purifier with complicated structure, high cost and power consumption. Instead, it uses a dewatering filter without moving parts and a water separator to complete the dehydration function through reasonable combination. The process is: air compressor - cooler - dewatering filter - gas storage tank - water separator filter - filter decompression two-body - reversing valve - cylinder, see Figure 2.

In this system, most of the water is removed in the dewatering filter, and the remaining moisture Further sedimentation in the gas tank. Residual moisture can also be further removed in a water separator and a filtered decompression duplex.

Since the volume of the gas storage tank is relatively large (V is the volume of the gas storage tank and V is the gas supply per minute), the flow rate of the compressed air in the gas storage tank is very low, the residence time is long, and the sedimentation effect is good. And the gas storage tank has a large cooling capacity, which ensures the dehydration requirements of the entire system in winter.

4 Use effect The cooling and dehydration design of the pneumatic system is simple, reliable and effective. The minimum operating temperature of the cylinder and gas valve in the system is 5 °C, but the actual winter ambient temperature is often as low as 10 °C ~ 15 °C. After 4 years of operation, there has never been a freezing failure. The service life of cylinders and valves is also very long (2 to 3 years), which has achieved the expected results. The cooling dewatering system has a small capacity and is suitable for a system with a gas supply amount of ≤0.5 m / min, which can meet the needs of a pneumatic cooling and dehydration system in which most gas consumption is not very large.
