API 560 serves as a widely referenced design code for direct-fired heaters. Flaretec direct-fired heaters can be fully or partially compliant with API 560 standards based on specific client requirements.

Compared to indirect-fired heaters, direct-fired heaters offer significant advantages, including lower costs, reduced maintenance needs, and less reliance on electricity. Our precise radiant zone designs and row-by-row convection coil layouts ensure optimal heat transfer across the entire heater. At Sigma Thermal, we collaborate closely with clients to tailor solutions for diverse process mediums and conditions. Some common examples include:

Like indirect-fired heaters, direct-fired heaters provide extensive customization options regarding fuel sources and burner flexibility. Clients can select from standard and engineered burner setups that utilize both conventional and alternative fuels, as well as natural draft and forced-draft units. We also offer low-emission burners that comply with stringent emission standards, including Low NOx and Best Available Control Technology.

Depending on the process inlet temperature, direct-fired heaters can achieve efficiencies exceeding 90% on a Lower Heating Value (LHV) basis. With the addition of an optional economizer, efficiency can rise up to 93%. All our units come equipped with comprehensive control systems to maximize safety and performance. We offer both straightforward and cost-effective standard panels along with full process automation featuring PLC-based combustion controls and Building Management Systems (BMS).

This office supports regional clients with local sales, project assistance, engineering, and after-sales service, while the original Flaretec office in Chesterfield, England, continues operating as Sigma Thermal UK & Europe to cater to UK and European clients.
