House explosion in Hickory Hills
Tonight witnessed a dramatic house explosion in Hickory Hills, Illinois, and I, Campbell Holinger, a regular reader of this site, happened to be there to capture several images of the aftermath. The incident took place at 9122 Barberry, within the jurisdiction of the Roberts Park Fire Protection District. Emergency services were quickly dispatched, initially requesting a full still alarm for the fire, which was later upgraded to include a TRT Box Alarm and an EMS Box Alarm. By around 6:20 PM, most of the responding units, including much of the TRT equipment and additional EMS resources, were cleared from the scene.
Both homeowners were rushed to the hospital; however, their conditions remain unknown.
For those interested in more details, the Chicago Tribune has published an article accompanied by a video clip, which you can find [here](link).
According to a neighbor named Polensky, a retired couple had been living in the raised ranch-style home for many years. He mentioned seeing them walk out of the house seemingly unharmed. However, local police later stated that no injuries were reported.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered significant smoke streaming from the house, suggesting some material might have been smoldering inside. As of now, nearly a dozen fire crews are still on the scene, conducting thorough checks for any potential gas leaks in neighboring houses.
Attached below are several images taken shortly after the explosion. These photos vividly illustrate the extent of the damage.
