German chemical industry will slow down next year
The German Chemical Industry Association recently reported that, due to the ongoing strengthening of the euro and rising crude oil prices, the overall output of the German chemical industry is projected to grow by 2.5% in 2008, with sales revenue expected to rise by 4.5%. This represents a slight slowdown compared to the previous year’s performance.
In 2007, the sector saw a more robust growth, with production increasing by 4.5% year-on-year and total sales reaching 174.4 billion euros—an increase of 7.5% from the previous year. Domestic sales were up by 7%, while international sales rose by 8%. The association's chairman, Li Ningya, who is also the CEO of Germany’s Henkel Group, noted that the price of German chemical products was expected to rise by 2.5% in 2007 and is anticipated to climb another 2% in 2008.
Since 2003, the German chemical industry has experienced a revival, with many companies expanding their presence in the Chinese market. This move has allowed them to benefit from China's rapid economic growth. According to the report, the industry employed approximately 439,900 people in 2007, highlighting its significant contribution to employment and economic stability in Germany. The sector continues to adapt to global market fluctuations while maintaining a strong position in both domestic and international markets.
