Exxon closes Trecatete refinery crude distillation unit in Italy

After the second fire in almost two weeks, ExxonMobil, the largest US oil company, recently shut down one of its two crude oil distillation units in the Trecatet refinery in Italy.
Antonella Sopranzetti, a spokeswoman for ExxonMobil in Rome, Italy, told Bloomberg reporters by telephone today that there was a fire on the crude oil distillation plant of the Trecateti refinery on August 31. At 8:45 a.m. local time on September 11th, the device fired again and the fire was extinguished after 45 minutes. The fire did not cause casualties. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

According to data compiled by Bloomberg News, the refinery near Milan has the capacity to process 230,000 barrels of crude oil per day. ExxonMobil, which owns 74.1% of the company, is the operator of this refinery, and its partner, Italy's ERG SpA, owns the remaining 25.9% of the shares.
