Chicago FD house fire 5-7-13

This report comes from Dan Shevlin:

Still & Box Alarm 5814 Roscoe
Still Time: Approximately 1410 hours
Engine 94 was the first on scene, responding to a fire facing westbound and immediately deployed two lines. Truck 53 was assigned to sector 1. Engine 7, as the second engine, positioned itself at the northwest corner of Newport and Menard, then advanced through the alley to the rear of the structure. Engine 68 approached from the east on Roscoe and also laid down a line. The Fire Alarm Officer received multiple calls about the gazebo on fire in the back. The fire quickly spread from the rear of the Chicago bungalow, into the attic, and then to the western exposure. I arrived well after the fire had been fully extinguished. Thanks, Dan Shevlin.

It was a fast-moving fire that spread quickly through the attic and into the adjacent building. Multiple engines were involved, and the response was coordinated across several units. It’s clear that the crews worked efficiently under pressure. These photos give a good visual of the scene and the equipment involved. A big thanks to Dan for sharing this detailed account and the images.
