Storms keep fire departments busy
This message comes from Martin Nowak:
During the storm on April 17, 2013, around 5 p.m., a powerful lightning strike hit a transformer near the intersection of 77th Street and Roberts Road in Bridgeview. The photo was taken by someone for me and shows the aftermath of the event. It’s a striking reminder of how nature can impact our daily lives without warning.
Here’s another account from Larry Shapiro:
Buffalo Grove firefighters responded to a structure fire at 414 Manchester Court just before 3 p.m. The fire was caused by an apparent lightning strike, which started on the building's exterior and spread slightly into the second floor. Firefighters worked quickly to contain the flames and prevent further damage. Below are some images from the scene.

These events highlight the importance of emergency services and the unpredictable power of severe weather. Whether it’s a transformer explosion or a lightning-caused fire, communities must remain prepared and vigilant.
