House fire in Joliet, 7-19-23
From Chris Skrabel:
I followed Engine Company 9 from Joliet to a major house fire at a large, mansion-style residence. The crew from Joliet performed well—quick response, solid tactics, and maintained a strong working fire scene throughout.
According to patch.com:
At 4:31 p.m., the Joliet Fire Department was called to 606 Rookery Lane for a structure fire. First responders arrived within three minutes of the initial call and found heavy smoke and flames coming from a two-story single-family home.
The building was unoccupied at the time and under construction. All workers were safely evacuated before the fire could spread further. Firefighters used multiple hose lines inside to tackle the blaze on the second floor. Additional crews handled water supply, search and rescue, ventilation, salvage, overhaul, safety checks, and support operations.
The fire was brought under control by 5:40 p.m. Units from stations 1, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 were on scene. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Interestingly, last September, the Joliet City Council had designated 606 Rookery Lane as a public nuisance due to previous code violations. This incident highlights the ongoing challenges in managing unsafe structures, even after formal notices have been issued.
