Machine fire in Buffalo Grove 1-11-12
On what was otherwise a peaceful and slow day, Larry Shapiro headed to a fire at an industrial facility located at 1010 Johnson Drive in Buffalo Grove. The incident began when smoke was reported inside the building, prompting emergency crews to respond. Upon arrival, they found the structure had already been evacuated, with thick smoke filling the interior. A machine inside the building had sparked a small but intense fire, causing some filters to ignite. To handle the situation, Northbrook Tower Ladder 12 was called in as a second unit, while Buffalo Grove’s Engine 26 quickly deployed a single line to extinguish the flames. The fire was under control within minutes, thanks to the swift response of the firefighters.
A series of photos captured the scene, showing the efforts of the responding units. One image highlights Buffalo Grove Tower 25 being raised in case firefighters needed access to the roof. Another shows Engine 26 sending a hose line into the building to knock down the fire. Smoke still lingered in the production area of Vapor Bus International, indicating the intensity of the blaze. Firefighters were seen exiting the building, with one being hosed down as a precaution. Another photo captures a firefighter cleaning off after the incident, while two Ferrara units from Buffalo Grove stood outside the facility, ready for any additional needs.
The event, though contained, served as a reminder of the dangers present in industrial settings. Thanks to quick action and proper equipment, no injuries were reported. For more visuals from the scene, check out the full gallery here.
