Central Stickney FPD has been added to the site
I recently came across some interesting information about the Central Stickney Fire Protection District (CSTK) while browsing through old records and recent updates. Located within MABAS Division 21, Central Stickney serves a five-square-mile area that includes portions of the Stevenson Expressway (I-55) and a significant industrial park. This district is unique because it operates with a team of part-time personnel, ensuring coverage for its residents.
The Central Stickney station is home to an impressive fleet of vehicles, including two ambulances and a pair of 2004 Pierce Enforcer engines. One standout piece of equipment is their Simon-Duplex/LTI 75-foot rear-mount tower ladder, which happens to be the first of its kind produced by LTI. Additionally, they have a pickup truck used by their battalion chief, adding versatility to their operations.
Interestingly, before adopting their current red and white color scheme, all Central Stickney apparatus were painted entirely white. Historically, the department ran with FMC and Howe units, some of which can be seen in vintage photos showcased in the district's historical gallery. For instance, there’s a notable image of a 1971 Duplex/Howe 1250/0 85-foot Grove ladder that once served the community.
Central Stickney has gained attention recently for its involvement in several multi-alarm fire responses, as highlighted in previous posts here and here. Their proactive approach and efficient response times make them a vital asset to the region, especially given their strategic location near Midway Airport.
If you're ever in the area, take a moment to appreciate the blend of tradition and modernity reflected in Central Stickney’s operations. It’s not just about the hardware; it’s about the dedication of their part-time firefighters who ensure safety around the clock.
