Central Stickney FPD has been added to the site
Central Stickney Fire Protection District recently joined the roster of MABAS Division 21. This district, located near Midway Airport, covers an area of about five square miles and includes parts of I-55 and a significant industrial park. The Central Stickney station is manned by part-time personnel and houses a variety of vehicles including two ambulances, two 2004 Pierce Enforcer engines, a Simon-Duplex/LTI 75-foot rear-mount tower ladder, and a pickup for their battalion chief.
Before switching to their current red and white color scheme, Central Stickney’s fleet was entirely white. Historically, they utilized FMC and Howe apparatus, some of which can be seen in the historical gallery we’ve shared, showcasing their equipment from as far back as the 1970s. One such piece of history is a 1971 Duplex/Howe 1250/0 85-foot Grove aerial ladder, a vehicle that played a crucial role in the district's early operations.
Currently, Central Stickney operates what is believed to be the first 75-foot tower ladder produced by LTI. Engine 905, one of the two 2004 Pierce Enforcers, remains a stalwart of their firefighting arsenal. Over the past year, Central Stickney has been involved in several notable incidents, including multiple extra-alarm fires, which were covered in previous posts on our platform.
The district’s transition to its current livery marks a modernization effort while still honoring its storied past. Their commitment to serving the community extends beyond just firefighting; they play a vital role in maintaining safety within their jurisdiction, especially given the proximity to Midway Airport and the surrounding industrial zones. It’s clear that Central Stickney continues to evolve and adapt to meet the needs of their growing community, ensuring they remain prepared for any emergency situation.
