Barrington Countryside FPD buys demo engine

At MySuburbanlife.com, there's an interesting article about the Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District, which highlights the recent acquisition of a new fire engine. The trustees of the district gave their approval for this purchase during a special meeting held on Monday evening. This event also marked a touching moment as they celebrated an unexpected dedication to Illinois Fire Chiefs Association consultant and retired deputy chief, John Feit. Trustee Paul Heinze took the opportunity to publicly honor Feit by dedicating the district headquarters’ conference room, located at 22222 N. Pepper Road, Lake Barrington, in his name. The room is now called the Deputy Chief John J. Feit Center. Feit has been instrumental in guiding the district through several critical transitions, including its separation from the village of Barrington, planning the development of a third fire station, and advising on equipment acquisitions. As the district marks its 100th day of independent operations, it’s impressive to note that its team of 70 firefighter-paramedics has already responded to 124 emergency calls in February alone, transporting 61 patients to hospitals. Chief Jeff Swanson shared these statistics, showcasing the growing demands on the district’s resources. Feit played a key role in recommending the purchase of new equipment for the district’s second station in Barrington Hills. The newly acquired rescue-pumper-squad engine, currently being showcased as a demo piece at Fire Service, Inc., in Florida, is set to arrive within the next 40 days. According to district spokesman Ryan McKeon, this multifunctional apparatus will not only serve as a frontline fire engine and water pumper but also act as a fully equipped squad vehicle capable of delivering advanced life support at severe accident scenes. Feit and Station 2 Captain Nick Asta emphasized that this single purchase will help resolve the overcrowding issue at the Barrington Hills station, where vehicles have been parked bumper-to-bumper due to limited space. By replacing three older vehicles with this one new apparatus, the district aims to enhance operational efficiency while addressing logistical challenges. Feit explained that with this new engine, the district can now bring 10,000 gallons of water directly to a fire scene without relying on external sources. “This is something we’ve never done before,” Feit remarked, highlighting the significance of this acquisition. District President Tom Rowan expressed confidence in the decision, stating that the $318,550 price tag for the engine represents a solid investment. With this addition, the Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District is not only strengthening its capabilities but also ensuring better preparedness for future emergencies. As the district continues to grow and evolve, such strategic investments underscore its commitment to providing top-notch services to the community.
