House fire in Joliet, 7-19-23

I followed Engine Company 9 from Joliet to a large house fire that took place at a mansion-style residence. The Joliet crew arrived quickly and handled the situation with professionalism, maintaining a solid working fire response throughout the incident.

At 4:31 p.m., the Joliet Fire Department was called to 606 Rookery Lane for a structure fire. First responders arrived within three minutes of the initial call, finding heavy smoke and flames coming from a two-story single-family home.
The building was unoccupied and under construction at the time, and all workers were safely evacuated before the fire spread too far. Firefighters used multiple hose lines inside to tackle the fire on the second floor, while other crews worked on water supply, search and rescue, ventilation, salvage, overhaul, safety, and support operations.
The fire was brought under control by 5:40 p.m. Crews from stations 1, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 were on scene. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported.
Interestingly, last September, the Joliet City Council had classified 606 Rookery Lane as a public nuisance, which may have played a role in the ongoing issues at the property.
