NEC develops technology that recognizes fruit through photos

NEC recently released Agri-biometrics (* 1), which enables a large number of fruits to be individually identified with high accuracy by photographing them.

This technology uses the world's No.1 NEC fingerprint and face recognition technology, which can capture the appearance of the fruit and identify the fruit skin individually. With this technology, farmers only need to take a picture of a camera and log in before the product is shipped. Consumers and trades do not have to read the planting record and origin of the product by reading the barcode or the electronic tag. This will prevent counterfeiting at the place of production and establish a safe and secure Traceability (* 2).

The characteristics of this technology are as follows:

1. Fruit appearance recognition technology based on fingerprint recognition technology

The appearance of the fruit's epidermis will naturally produce different textures during the planting process. Even the same variety will have different textures for each fruit. NEC fingerprint recognition technology developed using the individual texture recognition technology, based on the appearance of the skin of the fruit as a benchmark, it is difficult for humans to judge with the naked eye a large number of fruits for high accuracy comparison.

2. Face recognition technology based on oblique diagonal photos positive correction

The application of facial recognition technology 3-dimensional image recognition technology, developed a direction of automatic correction of agricultural products.
