Electrical fire in Wheeling, 1-3-18
At approximately 3:15 AM, Wheeling firefighters responded to a call about smoke coming from an apartment complex on Lexington Court. Upon arrival, they discovered that the outdoor electric utility box was fully engulfed in flames. While waiting for ComEd crews to arrive, firefighters immediately began stretching their lines and evacuating the building to ensure the safety of all residents.
After about an hour on the scene, the electrical power to the box was successfully de-energized. Firefighters then used water followed by foam to completely extinguish the remaining fire. Once the area was secure, power was rerouted and restored to the building. Residents were subsequently allowed to return to their apartments.
