Electrical fire in Wheeling, 1-3-18
At around 3:15 AM, Wheeling firefighters responded to a call about smoke coming from an apartment building on Lexington Court. Upon arrival, they discovered that the outdoor electric utility box was fully engulfed in flames. While waiting for ComEd to arrive and de-energize the power, the firefighters stretched their lines and evacuated the building to ensure resident safety. After about an hour on the scene, the power was successfully cut off. Firefighters then used water followed by foam to fully extinguish the remaining fire. Once the situation was under control, power was rerouted and restored to the building, allowing residents to return to their homes safely.
