American EcoMotors and Hunan University jointly develop OPOC technology

On March 13, 2014, EcoMotors, headquartered in Allen Park, Michigan, announced the cooperation with Hunan University to establish a joint R&D center in Changsha to further develop the OPOC technology for the Chinese market.

All sectors witnessed the signing of Hunan University and EcoMotors

OPOC is a brand-new engine technology, especially unique OPOC (Opposed PistonOpposedCylinder opposed-piston opposed cylinder) engine - suitable for cars, light trucks, ships, agricultural vehicles, generators, off-road machinery, and any other traditional Gasoline or diesel powered equipment. Major EcoMotors investors include Cosla Ventures, Bill Gates, and Braemar Energy Ventures.

EcoMotors said: The OPOC engine has features such as small size, high efficiency, low emissions, light weight, high power, and a small number of components.

The new R&D center is located at Hunan University and is the first overseas R&D center established by EcoMotors in China. It will serve as the research and development base of EcoMotors in China. EcoMotors will provide funding for the center to support the development of opoc engines and related technologies as well as adaptability improvements based on local market requirements. Hunan University will provide support for EcoMotors, including engine testing and performance simulation optimization.

Mr. Amit Soman, president and chief operating officer of EcoMotors, stated: “As the first overseas R&D center of EcoMotors, this cooperation is an important step for us in the commercialization of high-end technologies, and also reflects the Chinese market in our global strategy. We will improve our products at this R&D center to meet the specific needs of the Chinese market and provide support to other partners in China.”

The joint R&D center is located in Hunan Province, China's machinery manufacturing industry base. This will also help EcoMotors to make full use of local talents. As part of the collaboration, EcoMotors will also provide scholarships for graduate students of Hunan University to fund their research on opoc technology, and outstanding students will have the opportunity to work at EcoMotors.

“As a strong research institute, Hunan University is proud to cooperate with EcoMotors, a company that is rapidly changing the dynamics of the internal combustion engine, and we will fully support the development of the joint R&D center.” EcoMotors and Director of Joint Research Center of Hunan University, Hunan University professor Liu Jingping said that "cooperation will enable us to build an efficient engine and play an important role in building a clean future for China."

Compared with conventional internal combustion engines, OPOC engines can be designed to increase efficiency by 15-45%, while being smaller, lighter, and lower in manufacturing cost. Its "dual-mode" configuration allows the engine to perform a variety of functions, providing peak power while significantly reducing emissions, improving operational and fuel efficiency. The reduction in size and weight also allows automakers to fundamentally rethink the design of the car, providing the possibility to improve the aerodynamic performance of the engine and further improve efficiency.

"Hunan University has advanced engine testing facilities and is the most ideal partner for EcoMotors. It is beneficial to the technical development of the OPOC engine for the Chinese market." Professor Peter Hofbauer, founder, chairman and chief technology officer of EcoMotors, said: "Through EcoMotors Co., Ltd. and Hunan University's best and most outstanding talents are joining forces, and our cooperation will bring revolutionary progress to EcoMotors' engine technology to meet the needs of China and even the global market.”

The leaders of the Hunan University, leaders of the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, leaders of the Hunan Provincial Bureau of Foreign Experts, leaders of the Beida Fund Company attended and witnessed the signing ceremony at Hunan University. This also means that the commercialization of this new engine technology has sprouted in China.

So far, the pace of commercialization of American EcoMotors has been accelerating, and two joint ventures, a joint research and development center have been built in China, and some senior professionals have also joined. A large amount of investment shows that investors are very optimistic about the prospects of this engine technology. A senior staff member stated: “We are willing to give up our previous stable career and work hard for the development of OPOC, which shows that we are optimistic about this technology prospect.”
