The Elwood Fire Protection District (FPD) in Illinois has recently received a brand-new industrial foam pumper from Sutphen, equipped with a National Foam system. This state-of-the-art unit is designed to handle high-risk industrial incidents with precision and power.
The pumper features a 256-inch wheelbase, a travel height of 11 feet 11 inches, and a total length of 37 feet 6 inches, making it both maneuverable and robust. The chassis is a Sutphen 73†model with a half 15†raised roof, providing ample space for the crew and equipment. It includes a four-door, four-person cab with two EMS cabinets, ensuring comfort and efficiency during long operations.
The vehicle is powered by a Detroit Diesel S60 engine delivering 515 horsepower, paired with an Allison GEN IV EVS4000 transmission. The electrical system includes a Leece Neville 320-amp alternator, while the pump is a Hale 8FG with 300 GPM capacity. The pumper offers multiple discharges, including three 5-inch lines, two 3-inch lines, and a high-flow 8-inch deck gun capable of 5,300 GPM. A 750-gallon water tank and a 300-gallon foam tank support extended firefighting operations.
The body is built by Sutphen, featuring a PA-12 configuration, roll-up doors, and a total of 234 cubic feet of compartment space. It also comes with a Duo-Safety Pumper Ladder Compliment and rear chute ladder storage for easy access.
Optional equipment includes a Harrison 20W generator, a Safety Vision camera system, and a Command Light 8000W light tower, enhancing both functionality and safety. The unit was built under Sutphen shop order #HS-5058, and detailed blueprints are available for reference.
This new pumper represents a major upgrade for the Elwood FPD, equipping them with advanced technology and capabilities to better serve their community and respond to industrial emergencies.
