House fire in Chicago 8-17-13

This message is from Eric Haak:

At 17:02, the incident was still active. Although the fire had already gone out by the time I arrived, I wanted to share it because it was an unusual situation. The structure was a vacant two-and-a-half-story frame located in the middle of the 6900 block of South Winchester. The street ends in a cul-de-sac at the southern end. What made this even stranger was that there was a block party happening at the time! A couple of hundred people were barbecuing, dancing, and kids were running around the street. Then, without warning, the house caught fire and was fully involved before any units could respond. No one on the scene saw anything out of the ordinary. One witness just said that one minute the house was fine, and the next it was completely engulfed in flames. Engine 101 used their deck gun to bring the fire under control and prevent it from spreading further. I was about two miles away when Engine 101 reported on scene, and by the time I got there, there wasn't much left to see. Engine 129 and Truck 50 were also on scene, along with Truck 41.
