Cosmic rays are high-energy particles from the universe, always present on the planet of our lives. Although people rarely feel the existence of cosmic rays in their daily lives, earth creatures including humans are constantly evolving under the influence of cosmic rays. Therefore, the origin of cosmic rays has always been recognized as a major frontier issue in the scientific community, and has become a scientific proposition of particle physics, astronomy, and cosmology. The competition between the world is also fierce.
Therefore, in 2015, China's “High Altitude Cosmic Ray Observatory (LHAASO)” project was officially approved, with a total investment of about 1.2 billion yuan, of which 900 million yuan was applied for by the state, and about 300 million yuan was allocated for the project in Sichuan Province. . Officially started on June 19, 2018.
The detector array of this observatory is designed in three parts: an array of ground shower particles consisting of 5195 electromagnetic particle detectors and 1171 dice detectors; 78,000 square meters of water Cherenkov detectors, divided into 3000 The detection unit is installed in the detector "pool" described above; 12 wide-angle Cherenkov telescopes.
The application of the "Application of Special Integrated Circuits in the High-altitude Cosmic Ray Observatory (LHAASO) Experiment" project will be presided over by Chen Gang, the deputy director of the High Energy Institute. The project leader Cao Yu researcher reported the project situation from the background and significance of the project, the basic conditions of the cooperation and the research plan, and the implementation of the project.
Through the cooperation between China and France, this project completed the design and process exploration of the ASIC chip that can be applied to LHAASO, and completed the corresponding electronic application plug-in template design and corresponding design proposal report of LHAASO experiment. The judging panel composed of experts from the Institute of Microelectronics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Electrical Engineering, the Institute of Physics and Chemistry, the Institute of Information Engineering, the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, the University of Science and Technology of China, Tsinghua University, and Sichuan University listened carefully to the report of the project leader. The other acceptance documents submitted by the project unanimously agreed to pass the acceptance and the comprehensive evaluation was excellent.
